Sun and skin care manufacturer, Linco Care, whose top-selling brands include Calypso and Re-Gen, has expanded into new markets and is recording significant export growth.
The business has registered products and intellectual property in New Zealand and Southeast Asia and recorded an overall turnover of £8.7m in the last financial year. It is on target to reach sales of £10m this year, its highest to date.
Founded in Manchester in 1979, Linco Care has created growing demand for its products abroad. It is now exporting to over 60 countries worldwide, including markets in Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East. The percentage of export-related turnover has increased from 20% in 2010 to last year’s figure of 39%. It has a stated aim of exceeding 42% by the end of this financial year.
The sales success is in part down to the company’s agile working practices. Having the capacity to manufacture products to short lead times, and the ability to react to market changes quickly, ensure the company benefits by offering time-sensitive solutions to customer demands.
In addition to in-store sales around the world, it has created additional opportunities by selling online on Amazon and eBay. In addition, it has developed e-commerce websites for Calypso and Re-Gen.
A major partnership with Thomas Cook across the summer, where Calypso is featured on the travel company’s digital platforms, on screens in 200 travel agency stores and in the autumn/winter edition of ‘The Excursionist’ magazine, has already impacted on sales. The company is giving all Thomas Cook customers that book a luxury sunbed a complimentary bottle of sunscreen to use on their holiday, so they can lie back and relax knowing that their skin is protected.
2018 has already seen Linco Care’s products presented at trade fairs worldwide, including Cosmoprof in Bologna and Hong Kong, PLMA in Amsterdam, and Beautyworld Middle East in Dubai.
The manufacturer is continuously creating more innovative products. Just this year, it added six new products to Calypso’s 50-strong range, which is available to buy from the UK’s leading retailers, including Home Bargains, Wilko, Aldi and Asda. This included the Kids Coloured Sun Lotion Roll-On, which has a unique blue colour that vanishes when rubbed into the skin, thereby making it easier for adults to see the areas applied to and ensuring all exposed areas are protected.
Re-Gen has also introduced a new Continuous Spray. Created from the same clinically approved formula as the popular Re-Gen Oil, the non-greasy skin care spray can be applied at any angle, so it’s perfect for those hard-to-reach places that are prone to stretch marks.
